Ryan Power – Business Bootcamp

We are all looking forward to our Business Bootcamp in July, which will be the first of its kind in Aberdeen. The Bootcamp is an opportunity for salon owners and beauty therapists to level up their business skills. We spoke to Ryan Power, beauty business coach and best-selling author, who will be speaking at the event. Ryan’s positive and upbeat approach to marketing advice provides plenty of motivation and energy to boost your business forward.

What inspired you to start marketing coaching for businesses in the beauty industry?

Ryan: Marketing has always been a passion of mine and as owners of a day spa and salon for more than a decade it was an obvious choice for us. We knew that there was a huge gap in the market as it’s an area that so many business owners don’t truly understand or maximise to their potential. We’re now in our seventh year of helping salon owners.

What is one piece of advice you would give to salon owners and beauty workers?

Ryan: Commit to excellence in your field. If you’re a therapist, aim to be the best you can.  If you’re a business owner, aim to be the best one of those you can. It all takes time. You’re going to make mistakes and that’s fine. Try new things, learn from your experiences and try and do all of this with a smile on your face where possible.

What marketing mistake do you see salon owners make the most?

Ryan: Sadly, there are a few but the main one for me is being boring. If you’re putting out bland messaging and weak offers then that’s not going to make you stand out and it’s not going to attract anyone. The main currency of the modern age is attention. If you’re bland or boring then you’re going to get no attention – and with it, no clients.

Why is marketing an essential skill for beauty industry workers?

Ryan: You can be the greatest salon, stylist or therapist but ultimately if nobody knows you’re there then you’re going lose the battle. The most successful salons aren’t necessarily those who offer the best services or treatments – they are often those who are the best at getting people to continually come and use them. Conquer your marketing and many of your other business problems simply vanish.

What makes opportunities like the Business Bootcamp great for salon owners?

Ryan: There’s nothing like the buzz of a live event and meeting other like-minded business owners. That’s never been more true than right now with everyone having been closed. The lockdowns have made many people view their businesses differently and set new goals for their futures. Events like this help to put those plans into motion.

What are the benefits of having services like BeautyBooker for salons?

Ryan: The more your business can be put in front of clients; both new and old, the better. We have to keep reminding clients that we are here and we’re ready to serve them. All avenues whereby you can increase the likelihood of bookings should be explored.

Thanks so much to Ryan for taking the time out of his busy schedule to speak to us. You can hear from Ryan Power at the Business Bootcamp in April. Other guests at the event include our founder Kate Stott, Sammy MacDonald, owner of the Studio Salons and AABT, and Jayd Linney, owner of Nailco Salons. These industry professionals will be offering their tips and tricks for running a beauty business. There are limited spaces but you can secure your place at the Business Bootcamp here: https://beautybooker.training/product/business-bootcamp/

What can we look forward to seeing from you in the Business Bootcamp?

Ryan: We’ll be talking about business growth strategies, attracting dream clients into your business and everyone will walk away feeling inspired, motivated and ready to take action. I don’t want to give too much away but suffice to say that Aberdeen has never had an event like this one before!
